The political realignments is taking shape across the country, with Kenya Kwanza administration, United Opposition and Gen Z movement planning on how to take power in 2027 General Elections.

So far President William Ruto has joined hands with former prime minister Raila Odinga, in a broadbased government.

Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang'i among others have also shown interest in forging a united front to face president Ruto in the upcoming general elections.

However, with a new faction led by youthful parliamentarians comprising of Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, Saboti member of Parliament Caleb Amisi, MP Wamboka, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, are expected to disrupt the political calculations of Ruto, Raila, and Gachagua ahead of 2027.

A new faction, Kenya Moja, formed by politicians who have distanced themselves from the camps of President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is expected to upset political strategies within those camps in the 2027 general election.

The movement has been branded as Kenya Moja, and was launched on Sunday by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.

Other members of this new faction include Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, Jack Wamboka (Bumula), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti), and Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo (ODM).

Analysts warn that the rise of the Kenya Moja alliance could fuel last year’s slogan calling for both President Ruto and Mr. Gachagua to step down together.

Some also argue that Mr. Odinga, who has become an ally of Dr. Ruto, should also exit the stage alongside them to pave the way for a new political awakening.

“This situation is confusing and goes against our voting pattern – which has traditionally been rooted in tribal and regional affiliations. While Kenya Moja banks on the youth vote, its leaders are nearing 50,” said political analyst Festus Wangwe.

He noted that while Gen Z youth are aged between 16 and 28, the leaders of this new alliance are far older, with Sifuna aged 43 and Wamuchomba aged 50.

Secondly, although Kenya Moja seeks Gen Z votes, this voter bloc is fed up with the old style of politics.
