Hon. Nyakato Asinansi has made headlines in Uganda after she announced that she is no longer a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Her message surprised many people, especially those who have followed her political journey closely.
Nyakato is known for being a strong voice for the people of Bunyoro region. She has always stood for fairness, development, and the rights of her community.
On May 16, 2025, she posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account that she had joined a new political group called the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
In her message, she wrote:
“People’s Front For Freedom! Now let the work begin. I will command from Hoima City and Bunyoro! The struggle for Freedom will inevitably be won! Congratulations to all the promoters/members. Together we can!”
According to people close to her, Nyakato had become unhappy with how things were being done in NUP. They say that the party had started ignoring the Bunyoro region.
Even though Bunyoro is rich in natural resources like oil, it has not received enough attention or development from the government or the political parties.
Nyakato believes that PFF will give her a better chance to speak for her people. The group is not yet officially registered, but it has already started to attract interest from many Ugandans.
The People’s Front for Freedom says it wants to focus on the needs of ordinary people, promote good leadership, and give more power to the regions that have been forgotten for years.
By choosing Hoima City as her new political base, Nyakato is sending a strong message. She wants to bring new energy to a region that has felt left behind. She hopes to bring people together, especially those who are tired of broken promises and poor leadership.
Many Ugandans have reacted to her decision. Some say she is brave and ready to stand for what she believes in.
They support her move and are excited to see what she will do next. Others, however, question her timing. With the 2026 general elections approaching, they wonder if this is the right moment to start something new.
Still, Nyakato is not looking back. She has made it clear that her focus is on the future. She wants to build a political movement that listens to the people and takes real action.
Political experts say her move could change the political scene in Uganda. If the People’s Front for Freedom becomes a strong party, it might challenge the big parties like NUP and NRM.
