The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a new political party started by Uganda’s well-known opposition leader Col (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, has now been officially gazetted.
This means the government has fully registered the party, and it is now recognized by law. PFF can now operate legally like other political parties in Uganda.
This is a big achievement for the party and its supporters. It brings an end to months of waiting and questions about whether the party would be allowed to operate.
The news was announced at a press conference at the party’s offices on Katonga Road in Kampala.
Even though Dr. Besigye is currently in prison, a large photo of him was placed in the room to show that he remains the party’s key leader.
The Secretary General of PFF, Mr. Harold Kaija, told journalists that the gazettement is a “huge milestone.”
He said that many Ugandans are tired of poor leadership and want real change. Kaija added that PFF is here to lead that change and give people hope for a better future.
Kaija said the new party’s main goals are to promote freedom, justice, and accountability.
He also said the party will focus on civic education, which means teaching people about their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
PFF also plans to speak out strongly against corruption and dictatorship.
Dr. Besigye has been in politics for many years and has challenged President Yoweri Museveni in past elections.
He helped start the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the past, which was once the strongest opposition party in Uganda. Now, with the PFF, he wants to take another step toward changing the country.
Even though he is currently in jail, PFF leaders say they will carry on with his vision. They said Besigye’s imprisonment will not stop the movement.
Instead, it will make them stronger and more united. They believe that Uganda needs bold and honest leaders to fix the problems facing the country.
Kaija encouraged Ugandans to join the party and help in the peaceful struggle for freedom. He reminded people that PFF will not use violence but will follow the law in all its activities.
Many political experts believe that the gazettement of PFF will change the direction of opposition politics in Uganda.
With official status, the party can now plan better for the future, including the next general elections.
The registration of PFF is seen as a new beginning, not just for Besigye and his team, but for all Ugandans who want real change.
