Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made strong demands over the recent nominations to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He wants the selection panel to publish their exit report and Hansard records to show how the nominees were picked.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, May 13, Kalonzo said, “We want Kenyans to see everything.
The report and records must be made public. That way, everyone will understand how the six nominees were chosen.”
President William Ruto recently nominated Erastus Ethekon as the new IEBC chairperson.
He also picked Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah to serve as commissioners.
“This is not a commission for the people,” he said.
“It is a project designed to rig the 2027 election in broad daylight. And Raila Odinga is now silently supporting it.”
He accused the selection panel of being influenced by State House.
According to him, the panel included people loyal to Ruto, and some nominees were added unfairly.
Kalonzo pointed at Hassan Noor, one of the nominees, claiming that he is related to Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.
“Hassan Noor was not even on the original shortlist.
Junet pushed for the deadline to be extended so that Noor could be added,” he said.
He also questioned the nomination of Erastus Ethekon, saying he is close to State House Comptroller Josphat Nanok.
Kalonzo added that other nominees, like Joy Midivo and Charles Nyachae, are known Ruto allies.
“We even have someone like Dr. Adams Oloo, who was on the selection panel but also works as Ruto’s communications advisor.
That is a clear conflict of interest,” Kalonzo said.
He announced that the opposition will now create a parallel body to keep an eye on the IEBC.
“We will form a People’s IEBC. It will be a citizen-led watchdog to ensure transparency, fairness, and respect for the Constitution,” Kalonzo said.
