Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made shocking claims that President William Ruto is planning to have him assassinated.
The former DP made these serious accusations in a statement released on Monday, May 19, 2025, just a day after attending a church service in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County.
Gachagua said he had received information from secret sources that President Ruto sent over 100 heavily armed police officers from different elite security units to kill him.
According to him, the mission was well-organized and involved members from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), the Administration Police (AP), and the General Service Unit (GSU).
“These officers were not just ordinary policemen,” Gachagua said in his written statement.
“They were highly trained, hooded, and ready to carry out an evil mission.”
He claimed that the operation had two groups. The first group was assigned to block all roads leading to and from the church where he was speaking.
Their job was to plant illegal firearms and drugs in his convoy so that he could be arrested and charged with false crimes.
The second group, Gachagua said, had something even more dangerous planned. He alleged that this team had experts trained in biological warfare.
Their goal was to release a harmful gas, which would slowly damage his brain and make him mentally unfit to lead within three months.
“This was a plan to finish me in a way that would not raise suspicion,” he said.
“If it had worked, people would have thought it was a medical condition.”
According to Gachagua, his team managed to escape the plan after being warned by loyal officers within the system who did not agree with the mission. He changed his travel plans and avoided the route that the attackers had prepared for.
Gachagua and President Ruto were once political partners. They campaigned together in 2022 and won the election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
However, in late 2023, their relationship broke down after disagreements over the treatment of Mt. Kenya leaders and power-sharing in government.
In 2024, Gachagua left UDA and formed his own political party known as the Democratic Change Party (DCP). He has since been criticizing the government and has announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 general elections.
“This government is afraid of me,” Gachagua said.
“They know I speak the truth and I am gaining support from Kenyans, especially from the Mt. Kenya region.”
Gachagua also accused the government of using gangs and criminals to attack his supporters during public meetings. He mentioned violent incidents that took place in Limuru, Nyandarua, and Nairobi.
“My people are being harassed. My meetings are being disrupted. But no one has been arrested or investigated,” he said.
He claimed that the government now wants to withdraw his official security officers, leaving him exposed and vulnerable to harm.
“This is part of the plan. They want me unprotected so that they can carry out their plan without resistance,” he said.
Despite the threats, Gachagua said he is not afraid.
“I am not backing down. I am not going into hiding. I will continue speaking the truth. I will not be silenced by fear,” he declared.
