The Tanzanian government has now admitted not knowing who is planning the protests slated to take place in the country tomorrow.
Internal Affairs Minister, George Simbachawene, has said that they do not know who is behind the protests, hence the decision to ban them.
He has also stated that those behind them have not sought police approval or listed for how long they will run, pointing out that had this been done, the police would have stepped in to offer security.
According to the minister, those organising the protests have also not listed their theme and the police have no other option but to combat their plans.
"These protests are illegal, they are not allowed, and we should use this opportunity to appeal to all those who support them, and those who seem tired of peace, that since the protests are not authorized according to the law, our security forces will suppress them," he said at a presser on Monday.
This is despite earlier claims by President Samia Suluhu that organisers of the protests are known, alleging that they are people hired by enemies of Tanzania to destabilise the country by causing chaos.
The Tanzanian government has identified activist Mange Kimambi as among the main planners, accusing her of using her social media to incite Tanzanians against their government and moved in to have some of her social media handles restricted in Tanzania.
It has even opened money laundering and fraud charges against her in a bid to have her deported from America and prosecuted back at home.
