Chaos in Mungakha As Irate Villagers Torch 8 Houses Belonging To A Man Accused Of Killing A Teenager

Fear and anger gripped Mungakha village in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County, after a group of irate residents torched eight houses belonging to a man accused of killing a 14-year-old boy.

The man, who is currently on the run, is said to have beaten the teenager to death after accusing him of defiling his two-year-old daughter in a nearby sugarcane plantation.

Witnesses say the incident happened late in the evening when the suspect found the teenager in the plantation.

Instead of reporting the matter to the police, he allegedly launched a violent attack on the boy.

Villagers said the boy later died from the injuries he sustained. News of his death spread quickly, leaving the community shocked and enraged.

“We could not sit back and watch. A child has been killed in such a cruel way.

Even if there were accusations, there are proper ways to handle the matter,” one resident said.

The angry crowd marched to the suspect’s homestead, armed with sticks and stones.

They set eight houses ablaze and destroyed property, saying they were sending a message that such acts of brutality would not be tolerated.

By the time police officers arrived, the houses had already been reduced to ashes.

Navakholo Sub-County Police Commander confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway.

He appealed to locals to remain calm and let the law take its course.

“We are pursuing the suspect, and we call on members of the public to share any information that will help us track him down.

We also urge residents to stop taking the law into their own hands,” he said.

Community leaders also condemned the two tragedies — the death of the teenager and the destruction of homes.

They reminded locals that mob justice often leads to more suffering instead of solving problems.

Parents in the village have expressed fear and sadness, urging authorities to ensure children are protected from both violence and abuse.

The incident has left Mungakha deeply divided and in mourning. On one hand, there is pain over the death of a young boy.

On the other hand, there is anger over the alleged assault of a toddler. As police search for the suspect, residents are calling for justice and peace to be restored in the troubled village.
