Collo, a well-known matatu tout from Nairobi, has left many Kenyans heartbroken after he died in a tragic road accident involving the popular Uppercut matatu.
A video of him dancing and smiling just hours before the crash has gone viral, touching thousands who knew him or had seen him in action on the streets.
The accident happened in Tetu, Nyeri County. The flashy matatu, known for its vibrant colors and loud music, was involved in a grisly crash while heading out of town.
Collo, who worked daily on the matatu, was among those who lost their lives.
In the viral video, Collo can be seen full of life, dancing near the matatu and chatting with a friend.
His joyful words, “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling alright,” now echo with sadness among those mourning him.
The video was shared on TikTok by a group called Chicago Family Reunited.
Social media was flooded with emotional messages from friends, colleagues, and matatu lovers.
Many expressed disbelief that the cheerful tout, always seen joking with passengers and dancing at the stage, was gone forever.
“Death is so unfair,” one user wrote. Another added, “Collo, please wake up, this can’t be real.”
Reports suggest that the matatu was being driven recklessly before the accident.
Police had already received complaints about the vehicle’s behavior along Thika Road.
The driver, identified as Nicolas Mutwiri, is accused of being drunk at the time of the crash.
He is currently missing, and a search is underway.
Another passenger, Victor Kisinga, revealed that he was supposed to travel in the same matatu but canceled last minute due to an emergency.
He is now thankful for the twist of fate that saved his life but saddened by the loss of his friends.
The tragedy has opened up discussions about road safety and the behavior of public transport drivers.
Many Kenyans are now calling for tighter rules to prevent similar incidents in the future.
